Introduction

History of the Department

The Department of Business Administration at I-Shou University was established in August 1991. In order were the Division of Continuing Education in 1994, the Two-year Evening Program in 2000 and the Master’s Degree Program in 2007. In the academic year 2010, 20 classes were offered in Master's, Bachelor's and Continuing Education programs with a total of about 900 student enrolments. Together with all the staff and students' efforts, we have won recognition from various fields in terms of teaching, research, service, and student activities over the last 20 years. Our department emphasizes case analysis and case study. We have set up a business operation simulation laboratory to advance students' case analysis abilities while a Failology Research Centre was established to enhance their execution and integration of the related studies. We also highlight the bonding between theory and practice to develop business administration professionals who are equipped with the dexterity of global operation with an international viewpoint, while corresponding to the needs of enterprises and future prospects. On the aspect of professional development, our department insists on the following:

1. developing the students' professional business administration and management abilities with a comprehensive and global viewpoint. 

2. utilizing the case study and analysis approach to apply the theories that are learned from the textbooks and classes to the actual management environment. 

3. underlining the importance of morality and proficiency in foreign languages, communication, presentation and teamwork.


Introduction

Our department strives to develop professional managers with a competitive edge in the 21st century. The scope of the curriculum covers marketing, finance, production, human resources, strategy and other management-related domains. We also train our students to actively research problems and solutions for enterprise management-related matters. Presently there are three primary features in our department, they are:

1. Our department emphasizes case analysis and case study. A business operation simulation laboratory was founded while a potential case study training and academic research centre are planned to promote students' case analysis competency.

2. There are three major specialized domains in our curriculum. They are creative advertisement and marketing logistics, organizational behaviour and human resources, business diagnosis and administrative strategy. Also, a Failology Research Centre was established to enhance students' execution and integration of the related studies.

3. We emphasize theory and practice equally and we provide students with various options and support whether in advancing study or obtaining employment.


Department Goals

Our primary educational goal is to develop professional administration managers that are competent to excel in the trends of the present time and the future and to be resourceful in researching solutions for enterprise management-related problems through special areas of training such as creative advertisement and marketing logistics, organizational behaviour and human resources, business diagnosis and administrative strategy. We also reinforce language and communication skills that are needed in the workplace as well as the mastery of analysis and development in industrial trends. Our educational goals are as follows:

Goal no. 1 is to cultivate students with the character of being responsible, enthusiastic and cooperative.

Goal no. 2 is to develop students' business management professional skills while imbuing them with ethical beliefs.

Goal no. 3 is to foster students to acquire an international viewpoint and to be proficient in leadership, communication skills and critical thinking.

Goal no. 4 is to nurture students to be creative management professionals that can efficiently utilize information technology.
